A rare ring that is a true piece of history. This is a poesy or posy ring, popular from the late medieval period onwards. Inscribed with a motto or poem inside the band, and given as wedding rings. This one dates to the post medieval period circa 1680, and is written in italic script. It says ‘vertue gaineth glory’. In modern terms this would translate to meaning I will be happy to remain true to you.
The condition of the ring is very good for its age, just slightly out of round, with a lovely aged patina and a clear inscription.
