A very pretty Victorian ring, set with a vibrant sugar treated black opal and a rope edge, split shoulder, bezel setting.
We had this Opal lab tested, to check if it was a solid black opal or had received treatment, as the difference in pricing is vast. The results show that it is a sugar treated opal which means a chemical reaction between sugar and acid which deposits carbon to the porous structure of the opal as black dots. The treatment darkens the background color of the opal and therefore makes the play-of-color stand out more.
The ring is open backed for the light to shine through, and the opal is in very good condition with lovely play of colour across the surface, mostly blue green. It has a good clear hallmark, and is in very good condition.
It will be sent by special delivery or international tracked and signed for postage, in our luxury branded vintage style packaging.
