Antique Victorian opal pearl garnet large oval pendant 9 carat gold

We have here a beautiful antique mid Victorian opal, garnet and natural pearl, 9 carat gold pendant. A stunning and substantial piece of jewellery!
We have dated this beautiful piece in our opinion to the early Victorian era of 1837-1850. It has been assessed, carefully cleaned and refurbished by our goldsmith/gemmologist. 
The gemstones are in excellent condition and are all natural.
At its centre the piece holds a stunning natural opal that we have added in the place of an old empty mourning panel. 
It measures 19x7mm and is approximately 2.25 carats. Surrounding this are 20x2.5mm natural pearls, a circle of 20x3mm diameter flat cut garnets, and finishing with another circle of 34x3mm natural pearls.  The all original pearl and garnet gemstones, are in superb condition, and are held in crimped collet settings known as 'piecrust', with the new centre opal held in a gold rubover bezel. The garnets have a deep purple tone, and the pearls are very well matched with an excellent silver cream lustre. The opal has the full spectrum of colours including the rare red flashes which reflect with the garnets!
The whole setting is closed backed and there is a newly added large pendant bail to wear as a statement pendant. 
The piece measures 39x31mm in size and weighs a substantial 15.7 grams. There are no marks but has been confirmed by our Goldsmith as 9 carat gold.
This lovely piece of jewellery will be sent by Special Delivery, or tracked and signed International service, with a full description and care card. It will be sent gift wrapped in our vintage style packaging.
